Chris Nolan’s “Odyssey” To Film In Sicily

Filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s 8th century BCE tale “The Odyssey” will be partly filmed in Sicily reports Variety.

Shooting of the Sicilian portion of the film is expected to start in roughly two months on the island of Favignana (aka Goat Island), part of the Egadi archipelago off of Sicily’s north-west coast.

That is the same place where, according to scholars, Homer envisioned the sequence where Odysseus and his crew land to stock up on food, only to encounter the cyclops Polyphemus.

Nolan is also likely to film some secondary scenes for the big-budget feature in Sicily’s Eolian islands. The project is also shooting heavily in the U.K. and Morocco.

Production company Wildside (“Conclave”) will service the Sicily shoot of the film which Nolan and Emma Thomas will produce.

Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson and Charlize Theron star in the film that recounts the ten-year journey of Odysseus, King of Ithaca, as he travels home after the Trojan War. Along the way, he encounters multiple perils and discovers the death of his crewmates.

The film is slated to open in cinemas July 2026.
