A video has gone online showing off “Man of Steel” star Henry Cavill’s audition for the role of James Bond back in 2005.
Multiple actors were tested for the role of Bond for “Casino Royale,” replacing Pierce Brosnan who left the franchise with 2002’s “Die Another Day”. Some of the names being considered have been made public, some still have not to this day.
What is known is that the final round came down to three men – Daniel Craig, Henry Cavill and Sam Worthington. Cavill was just 22 at the time, too young to be considered for the role of a man who had risen to the role of Commander within the navy before being selected for MI6’s 00 program.
The audition video sees Cavill talking with someone off camera, recreating a scene from “Goldeneye” with Bond meeting Xenia Onatopp for the first time. The clip was first posted last month but has taken off today.
It has sparked discussion on social media about what Cavill’s Bond would’ve been like had he got the part then and if – at 41 now – he’d be the right choice to portray James Bond for the current day.
The video comes as the producers of the franchise appear no closer to naming a successor to Craig for the next Bond film whenever it heads into production.
