Turns out the London Knights can win a game without Easton Cowan recording a point.
The Toronto Maple Leafs prospect finally went pointless Friday, ending his unofficial-record streak of 65 regular-season games with at least a point in London’s 3-1 win over the Peterborough Petes.
Because Cowan’s streak dated back to last season, it did not go down as an official record.
Cowan overtook Mario Lemieux’s run of 61 CHL games with at least a point (1983-84) last month.
The Knights won the OHL championship last season and finished runner-up at the Memorial Cup as Cowan was named most outstanding player in the OHL.
This season, the Knights have the best record in the OHL.
The Maple Leafs selected Cowan in the first round, 28th overall, in 2023. The right winger from Mount Brydges, Ont., is expected to challenge for a spot on the Leafs as early as next season.
Cowan has played for Team Canada at the world junior championship the past two years. He has 18 goals and 22 assists for 40 points in 30 games with the Knights this season.
