Report: Lakers acquire centre Mark Williams from Hornets
ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that the Lakers are acquiring centre Mark Williams from the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for Dalton Knecht, Cam Reddish, a 2031 unprotected first-round pick and a 2030 pick swap.
The Los Angeles Lakers weren’t done making moves ahead of Thursday’s trade deadline.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that the Lakers are acquiring centre Mark Williams from the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for Dalton Knecht, Cam Reddish, a 2031 unprotected first-round pick and a 2030 pick swap.
This move comes days after the Lakers pulled off a blockbuster trade that sent power forward/centre Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for five-time All-Star Luka Doncic. The Lakers were in desperate need of a big man after that move.
ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reports that Williams has ties to Lakers head coach JJ Redick, who was a mentor figure to the centre while he played at Duke University.
Williams, 23, is averaging 15.6 points, 9.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists across 25 minutes per game. He didn’t make his regular-season debut until early December after straining a tendon prior to training camp. Williams has yet to play a full season through his three-year career, hitting 43 in his rookie year, just 19 last season and 23 so far this year.
