President Trump will give a speech Thursday morning during the National Prayer Breakfast — a decadeslong tradition bringing together bipartisan politicians and other national and international leaders.
The president's remarks come as he has sparked concern over his recent foreign policy proposals, including floating the U.S. purchasing Greenland, regaining control of the Panama Canal, merging with Canada and most recently, taking over the Gaza Strip. His tariff threats on Canada, Mexico and China have also caused tension.
A Ukrainian delegation is also expected to send a large cohort to attend the breakfast, arguing that the protection of religious freedom is a reason for the continued U.S. aid to Kyiv in its war against Russia, according to The New York Times.
Sens. Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.) and Roger Marshall (R-Kan.) are headlining the 2025 event.
Trump will also speak later Thursday morning at a separate private prayer breakfast.
His last National Prayer Breakfast speech came after he was acquitted on Feb. 5, 2020, during his first impeachment trial.
The president is scheduled to speak on Thursday at 8:15 a.m. EST.
