COMME des GARÇONS Turned a Classic Outdoor Shoe Into a Limited-Run Chef’s Clog
Highsnobiety is a global fashion and media brand passionate about product and the stories that shape them.
You have seen the Blundstone x COMME des GARÇONS HOMME clog before. Or, at least, you have seen very similar variations on the shoe before.
Essentially, this is a plain black chef's clog. It is a simple style of backless slip-on which, thanks to its functionality, is obligatory for many service workers and favored by green-fingered gardeners. But given a slight CdG twist, of course.
Inspired by the Blundstone’s All-Terrain Series, originally crafted for culinary professionals, COMME des GARÇONS HOMME creative director Junya Watanabe created the #2453 clog.
The slip-on shoe comes with a striped footbed, an embossed logo on the waterproof leather upper, and a Vibram sole for durability. These are small touches, subtly modifying the Australian brand’s function-focused clogs.
Launching as part of COMME des GARÇONS HOMME’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection, the shoes are available at select retailers with only 500 pairs worldwide.
For COMME des GARÇONS HOMME, which debuted derby shoes where the front stuck up at a 90-degree angle during its most recent fashion show, these are an uncharacteristically simple design. But that’s the point, Watanabe was apparently inspired by the original chef clog’s clean look.
And he's not alone, the simple footwear of kitchen workers has been put in a new, more fashionable spotlight of late. New York label Aimé Leon Dore has created similar slip-ons while Birkenstock's line of chef clogs has also been subject to fashionable collaborations. Not to forget the increasingly ubiquitous Crocs.
The word is spreading, and the functionality of chef clogs is expanding beyond the kitchen.
