GruppeM Reveals “Interference” Livery for Bathurst 12H

Mercedes-AMG Team GMR has revealed a unique livery, inspired by television color bars, for this weekend’s Intercontinental GT Challenge season opening Meguiar’s Bathurst 12 Hour.
The Hong Kong-based squad will field its Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo for reigning FIA GT World Cup winner Maro Engel, along with Maxime Martin and Mikael Grenier.
The livery, called “Interference”, is a joint design project between the team and Mercedes-AMG, influenced by the optics of a TV color test image combined with elements of modernity.
While never having won the race in four previous attempts, GruppeM Racing finished third in both the 2019 and 2023 editions, while also winning the Alan Simonsen Pole Award twice, including Engel’s 2:00.881 lap time from 2023 that still remains the quickest qualifying lap in the event’s history.
“The 12 Hour race in Australia is the opening round of five events in this year’s Intercontinental GT Challenge so it’s important for us to score some solid points,” said team owner Kenny Chen.
“We’ve been trying hard on winning there in our previous four attempts and every year we have almost won the race, missing out after bad luck, but we’ve always been very fast and in contention for victory.
“I know Maro, Mik and our new recruit, Maxime, will be pushing the No. 888 Mercedes-AMG GT3 hard for outright honors.”
Engel, who has been with the team in its two most recent Bathurst races, added: “I’ve been close to getting a win [at Bathurst] a few times but it hasn’t worked out so far although I’m hoping 2025 could be the year.
“Closest was in 2023 with Team GMR when we led but had to change elements regarding the data logger at our last pit-stop. But overall, still great memories especially qualifying and setting the lap record that year.
“I drove with Mik in 2023 and it’s great to have Maxime onboard with us this time. We’ll all be giving it our best shot.
“The team will be well-prepared especially coming off the back of our victory in Macau last November. It’ll be a challenging and long race but hopefully a successful one for us.”
