I inflicted unwanted history on Manchester United in Sir Alex Ferguson’s biggest shock

Simon Grayson holds a special place in the hearts of all Leeds fans after what happened in 2010. It was a memorable date for Leeds fans in January of that year as a Jermaine Beckford goal dumped Manchester United out of the FA Cup in the third round. Fifteen years on, Grayson joined talkSPORT on FA Cup fourth round weekend to reflect on that historic day. He was asked if it ranked as one of his best managerial achievements and he responded: “Yeah I would say so. To be where we were in League One and they were the Premier League champions…  “Nobody gave us a chance or any thought process we were going to get anything out of the game.” It was an astounding achievement, considering 42 league places separated the two sides at that time, following the Yorkshire club’s dramatic fall from the top flight. “We were on a great run ourselves,” he continued. “We were top of the league and we went there with huge confidence. “Sir Alex Ferguson, even till this day, puts it down as one of his worst days because of losing to a team two divisions below and being knocked out on his home turf.” It was a day of unwanted history for legendary boss Ferguson, who had never been knocked out of the FA Cup third round, or beaten by a team from a lower division in his 23 years at United up to that points. His most recent tenure was at Bengaluru, an Indian team competing in the Indian Super League. Now, Grayson revealed another interesting journey he is set to embark on. “At this moment of time I’m in Wakefield but I’ve just agreed to go to Nepal and be a coach,” the 55-year-old said.   “I had 18 months in India which I loved and I’ve been back just under a year. “I got an opportunity to go out to Nepal and manage a team in the Super League. I head out in early March and till probably the early weeks of May.” Grayson will lead Lalitpur City in an attempt to win their second league title. The Super League consists of nine teams who play eight matches in the regular season, which is then followed by the playoffs, a knockout style format until a champion is crowned in the final.
