Invincible season 3: release date, trailer, confirmed cast, plot rumors, and more news on the hit Prime Video show's return

Invincible season 3 is just one day away from making its Prime Video debut. Indeed, the critically-acclaimed Amazon TV series will finally start airing on the platform tomorrow (February 6), so you've not got much time left to learn everything about it. Before you dive into this guide, though, read my review of Invincible's third season.

Ready to proceed, superhero? Excellent. Below, I've compiled the latest information on Invincible's next outing. That includes its full release schedule and launch time, confirmed cast, plot specifics, trailers, and the adult animated show's future on Prime Video.

Major spoilers follow for Invincible season 2 part 1, Invincible season 2 part 2 follow from this point on. Potential season 3 spoilers are also outlined below, especially in the story section, so proceed with caution if you're avoiding them ahead of release.

Invincible season 3 release date

Last October, Amazon revealed Invincible season 3 would be released on February 6. That means it'll arrive almost four years after Amazon renewed Invincible for two more seasons.

Unlike its forebear, season 3 won't feature a midseason break. Speaking to TechRadar ahead of season 2's launch, co-showrunner Simon Racioppa said it "wasn't the original plan" for Invincible season 2 to have one, but it did all the same. Later in 2024, Invincible's original co-creator Robert Kirkman told GamesRadar that the show's creative team was "well aware of the fact that that [splitting season 2 in two] was not popular". In short: this season doesn't have one.

What time will Invincible season 3 episode 1 be released on Prime Video?

Invincible season 3 episode 1 will be released at 12AM PT / 3AM ET / 8AM GMT / 6PM AEST. It won't be the only one that is, either – indeed, per the X/Twitter post above, this season is launching with a three-episode premiere

Invincible season 3 trailer

Invincible season 3's official trailer arrived last December and teased (emphasis on the 'teased' part) plenty. From a superhero civil war and new heroes, to returning villains and Mark's 'serious' supersuit, it's another jam-packed teaser that's whet our appetite for the ultraviolent series' return.

Invincible season 3 cast: confirmed and rumored

Everyone up to the final two characters showed up in season 2, so they'll be back next season. As for Battle Beast and Titan, season 3's official trailer confirmed they'll return, so Dorn and Ali, who voiced these individuals in season 1, will reprise their respective roles.

There are other supporting cast members who could feature, but the above actors are the most noteworthy – and that includes Brown's Levy. His return will be a big surprise to anyone who hasn't read the comics, but I'll explain why we'll see him again in our plot section. Vanshanten's Anissa may be part of the cast, too, as the Viltrumite warrior plays a significant role in Mark's story from now on. Pre-release, Vanshanten's return hasn't been confirmed, though.

What has been confirmed ahead of launch, however, is a list of this season's new cast members. Indeed, Invincible season 3 has added nine big names to its already stacked ensemble – here's who you'll hear across its eight episodes and, if announced, who they're voicing:

Banks and Bradley's roles are a mystery, but one of them could end up voicing the Viltrumite warrior known as Conquest, who's sent to Earth to battle Mark Grayson after the latter's refusal to conquer the planet in his father's absence.

If either of them do, that'll put paid to my hopes that Jeffrey Dean Morgan will play Conquest. Confused? Well, in January 2023, I reported that The Walking Dead alumnus had seemingly joined the Invincible roster for season 2. Kirkman shot down that rumor, though, when he told TechRadar he was "going to disappoint people" by saying Morgan wouldn't voice a new character in season 2, which proved to be the case. Maybe Morgan is being held back to voice Grand Regent Thragg instead...

Invincible season 3 plot speculation

Amazon MGM Studios didn't release a story synopsis for Invincible season 3 because, well, spoilers, but I have a good idea of what'll happen this season before it debuts on one of the world's best streaming services.

One of the most shocking moments – it wouldn't be Invincible without them – in the season 2 finale was Mark seemingly beating arch-nemesis Angstrom Levy to death (read more in our Invincible season 2 ending explained article). However, while Mark believes he's killed Angstrom, long-time fans know he's still alive. No spoilers for when or where he'll show up next, though.

Anyway, Mark has been through the emotional wringer in Invincible's first two seasons, so it'll be interesting to see how this latest traumatic event impacts his seasonal arc. But, he won't be the only one attempting to overcome another harrowing life event. Debbie, Mark's mother, was severely injured by Angstrom in season 2 episode 8, so she'll need time to recuperate from her physical (and likely psychological, considering what went down in the Grayson household in the finale) wounds. Debbie will be heavily reliant on April, the nanny of Mark's half-brother Oliver, to help her look after him. Oh, and it'll be interesting to see if she continues dating realtor Paul and, you know, start living a happy life again after Nolan's betrayal.

Speaking of Oliver, he'll continue to grow at an accelerated rate, meaning it won't be long until his Viltrum superpowers emerge. If Mark thought he had enough on his plate, he'll also need to teach Oliver to master his abilities, plus when and why he should use them, which will be crucial in not only the fights to come, but also trying to prevent Oliver from becoming Omni-Man 2.0.

And by fights, I mean fights. Earth needs Mark and its other heroes to continue defending it from numerous threats. That includes the impending Viltrum invasion, potentially more sequids-based action (Russell Livingston can't catch a break, can he?), and any Earth-based villains who may re-emerge or be adapted from the comics for the first time. Powerplex falls into the latter category and, as the source material teases, his arrival on the scene – during a memorial service for the Chicago-based victims of Nolan and Mark's destructive fight in the season 1 finale – is something fans, myself included, are keen to see.

But Mark's biggest battle may occur closer to home. Indeed, before its first official trailer dropped, a new Invincible season 3 poster revealed who would be the next person to betray Mark – and that individual is Cecil.

Remember, he went behind Mark's back by hiring nefarious scientist D.A. Sinclair to build an army of ReAnimen. Considering how Sinclair's mecha-zombie creations held their own against Mark in season 1, and with the world needing some form of defence against anyone with Viltrumite blood in their veins (you know, in case they go all Omni-Man on planet Earth), it makes sense for Cecil to have a back-up plan in case Mark or Oliver follow in Nolan's footsteps. Nevertheless, as the poster and trailer confirm, Mark won't take too kindly to this reveal, nor his boss' deception.

Things, then, will take a grimdark turn for the titular hero. To coincide with season 3's much bleaker and darker narrative, Mark will get a new blue and black suit (see above), and I think he'll get it early on this season because I doubt his fallout with Cecil will be this season's climactic battle. There are bigger fish to tackle, after all.

Anyway, away from his superhero endeavors, Mark's love life has taken a sharp turn. He's broken up with Amber and is now wrestling with his long-gestating feelings for Eve. A future version of Eve – who, alongside other time-traveling Guardians of the Globe members, rescued Mark following his multi-dimensional fight with Angstrom – asked Mark to tell present-day Eve whether he loves her or not. However, in season 2's last scene, he opted not to do either, which sets up a tantalizing subplot heading into season 3. Will the pair finally get together like they do in the comics?

There are plenty – and I mean plenty – of other narratives that Invincible season 3 needs to pick up or resolve.

For one, Omni-Man and Allen should join forces, break out of Viltrum jail, likely head to Talescria, the Coalition of Planets' headquarters and, with the intergalactic organization's leader Thaedus, plan to fight back against the Viltrum Empire. Whisper it quietly, but that means we could get a buddy-cop team up between Omni-Man and Allen, plus the start of their quest to seek out fan-favorite superheroes from the comics – including Tech Jacket and Space Racer – to seek their help in defending Earth.

Additionally, there's the revelation that Dupli-Kate is alive, so it'll be fascinating to see if she re-joins the Guardians or not. We're still waiting for news regarding Shrinking Rae's recovery after her near-fatal experience in the battle with the Lizard League, too. Oh, and there's the inevitable return of Anissa who... let's just say does something to Mark in the comics that was incredibly shocking for its time. I'd be amazed, then, if said incident plays out in the same manner in Invincible season 3, providing it's not held back until next season.

Throw in the still-fractious nature of the new Guardians team members, more details on the future Guardians team that rescued Mark (what happens to Earth and their fellow heroes in this future timeline if Mark isn't around?), and even updates on open-ended season 1 storylines, and Invincible season 3 has lots to cover.

Has Amazon announced Invincible season 4 yet?

Yes! Last July, Kirkman confirmed Invincible season 4 had been greenlit. That announcement came almost two years after Seth Rogen, one of the show's executive producers, suggested season 4 had secretly given the go-ahead.. At the time (i.e. November 2022), a studio rep told TechRadar that it hadn't secretly renewed Invincible for a fourth season but it's officially in the works now.

With 144 comic books worth of story left to tell, there's still a ways to go before Mark's story is over. Amazon's adaptation only covered issues 1 to 12 in season 1, and large swathes of issues 13 through 41-ish in season 2, so I'm expecting many more seasons before Invincible's final credits roll.

That said, some of the source material's various subplots were rearranged for season 2, so it's difficult to say which issues and storylines will be part of Invincible season 3, and how they might be reinterpreted in season 4 and beyond, so I'm unsure how many more seasons it'll take to cover Invincible's entire story. My best guess? Amazon will need six to eight seasons to do justice to its multiversal narrative. And hey, considering how much I enjoy Invincible, I won't be complaining if that happens.
