Anthony Cirelli has been listed as out just three games before he’s supposed to play in the 4 Nations Face-Off.
Head coach Jon Cooper said Cirelli will not play for the Tampa Bay Lightning in Thursday’s game against the Ottawa Senators, per the team’s beat writer Benjamin Pierce.
The team hasn’t disclosed the details about Cirelli’s absence and it is unknown whether this has anything to do with him sitting out of the morning skate on Saturday. He didn’t miss that game or the one on Tuesday.
Cirelli has been dominant for Tampa Bay this season with 19 goals and 21 assists over 51 games, and has earned a spot on Canada’s 4 Nations Face-Off roster.
Right now there are many questions surrounding the tournament teams as injuries affect star players across the league. Cirelli, missing a game so close to the best-on-best action, adds to the uncertainty.
Cooper, who will also coach Team Canada, addressed the situation on Thursday saying that he isn’t looking to next week quite yet, and is hopeful Cirelli will return to play for the Lightning on the weekend.
