New Quinn client: The Watergate Hotel – Washington, D.C.
The Watergate Hotel

The iconic Watergate Hotel is Quinn’s newest client. An urban resort located along the banks of the Potomac River near Georgetown, The Watergate Hotel is known for its rich history and bold, mid-century modern design. As we approach America’s 250th anniversary, the hotel stands as a symbol of the nation’s fascinating past, with its ties to the Watergate scandal of the 1970s adding a layer of intrigue to this storied landmark. Guests can even stay in the Scandal Suite, filled with memorabilia that offers a playful nod to the events that put the hotel on the map.

Most recently, The Watergate Hotel has:

  • Launched a “Welcome Home, Pandas” offer to celebrate the giant pandas returning to the Smithsonian Zoo in January 2025. The offer includes luxurious room accommodations, panda pajamas, panda-themed sweet treats and round-trip transportation to the Smithsonian Zoo.
  • Introduced special romantic offerings in time for Valentine’s Day including:
    – Winter Igloos at The Next Whisky Bar: Nestled on the terrace, these cozy, private igloos transport guests to a glamorous white winter wonderland. Perfect for couples or intimate groups celebrating Galentine’s Day, each igloo accommodates up to six people, offering an unforgettable setting for dining under the stars.
    – ‘LoveShack’ Dessert Chalets at Kingbird: Located on the terrace and illuminated by twinkling lights, Guests can end their evening on a sweet note with a dessert experience like no other. Nestled by a crackling fire pit, the chalets are adorned with twinkling lights and soft textures, creating the perfect ambiance for indulging in expertly crafted treats by Kingbird’s Executive Pastry Team.
  • Announced the highly anticipated seasonal reopening of Top of the Gate, the hotel’s sophisticated rooftop lounge with 360-degree views of D.C.’s top landmarks.

The property features world-class dining, a rooftop bar with panoramic city views, and the lavish Argentta Spa, making it a favorite for both history enthusiasts and modern travelers seeking sophistication and style.

  • Accommodations: The hotel’s 336 guest rooms and spacious suites range from the Classic Superior and Deluxe rooms to one- and two-bedroom options. In-room amenities include La Bottega bath products, private balconies and more. Notable suites are the Scandal Suite which has been decorated in collaboration with Lyn Paolo, the costume designer for Scandal and contains items from the Watergate Scandal period, as well as the pretty and pink Rose Suite.
  • History: The Watergate name is synonymous with the country’s biggest political scandal. The Watergate Hotel, however, was controversial from the start. When it opened in 1965, celebrity Italian architect Luigi Moretti’s curvy, sprawling design sent shock waves through conservative D.C. Despite criticism, the Washington D.C. luxury hotel quickly became a playground for the fabulous. Actors and models hobnobbed with the congressmen and Supreme Court justices who lived in the Watergate apartments. Its glamorous reputation was eclipsed with political scandal on June 17, 1972, when five intruders were caught in the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee, leading to Richard Nixon’s resignation from the presidency.
  • Design + Architecture: Since Nixon infamously declared “I am not a crook,” The Watergate Hotel saw many renovations, but none that embraced its original design or posh patrons — until now. The Watergate Hotel’s flowing avant-garde architecture was designed by Luigi Moretti to emulate the mighty Potomac, and its stunning new Ron Arad-designed interior lives up to the building’s original elegance, with a dramatic copper lobby and lush, mid-century modern furniture. Complementing the hotel’s new, modern feel are the retro-chic staff uniforms, made by Mad Men costume designer Janie Bryant.
  • Dining:
    – Kingbird: Helmed by Executive Chef Tony DiGregorio, Kingbird is a contemporary Italian steakhouse, sourced from local purveyors and fresh pasta dishes made in-house.
    – The Next Whisky Bar: A striking and sophisticated lounge featuring an impressive wall of over 2,500 illuminated whisky bottles, creating a warm amber glow. Known for its extensive selection of premium whiskies from around the world, the bar offers an intimate setting to enjoy expertly crafted cocktails and small plates, all with a touch of timeless luxury.
    – Top of the Gate: An energetic and sophisticated rooftop lounge commanding 360-degree views of the Kennedy Center, the Potomac River, the Key and Arlington bridges, the Washington Monument and the rest of the D.C. skyline. Open seasonally, from April – October.
    – Spill the Tea: The Watergate Hotel was the destination for the Washington Elite and Hollywood royalty to mix and mingle. ‘Spill the Tea’ is the hotel’s rendition of a traditional afternoon tea with a distinctly historical spin- with pastries inspired by presidential figures and prominent members of the property’s 1960s origins.
  • Spa: Washington’s premier spa experience, Argentta Spa is a luxurious and modern escape offering innovative, exquisite services in an unrivaled atmosphere. Inspired by the Italian word for “silver,” luxe treatments and the world’s most renowned product lines are only the beginning.
  • Wedding, Meetings and Events: 27,000 square feet of meeting and event space was completely redesigned and renovated in 2016. Ten additional spaces across two levels comprise distinct meeting and event rooms. For the best Potomac River and city views in the District, groups can book their event at the Top of the Gate from April to October.
