Over 50,000 federal road potholes were patched up last year, including 3,955 in the peninsula and 51,949 in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan, the works ministry has said, according to a report by The Star.

“We are committed to ensuring federal roads are always in safe conditions through conducting routine maintenance rounds throughout the year,” it said today, adding that potholes are also monitored through an online system that ensures they are patched between one and three days once identified.

“All repairs must be done in accordance with the specifications and procedures set by the public works department (JKR),” the ministry wrote in reply to Balik Pulau MP Datuk Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik, who asked about efforts to ensure pothole repairs are done properly.

It was reported last year that over 16,000 complaints were received through the MyJalan app from its August 2023 launch to July 5, 2024. Besides broken roads, you can use the app to report malfunctioning traffic lights, street lamps, signboards, road furniture and public facilities – here’s how to use it.
