Spin Master Corp. is developing a live-action feature film based on the “Bakugan” franchise with filmmaker Brad Peyton (“San Andreas,” “Rampage”) slated to direct, write and produce the feature.

Peyton and Lindsay Harbert are developing the screenplay for the project, which is based on the $1+ billion selling toy line and global anime franchise that launched in 2007.

The “Bakugan” franchise revolves around small, spherical figures that transform into creatures when rolled onto special cards. The original TV series follows Dan Kuso and his friends as they use Bakugan to protect Earth from sinister evil.

The franchise has spanned toys, multiple anime adventure series, digital content and a popular strategy-based card game. Nearly 300 produced TV episodes have aired in over 100 countries around the world. Peyton says in an official statement:

“Bakugan is ready for the film treatment, and I’m thrilled to be the one to bring it to the big screen for the very first time. With Lindsay and the Spin Master team alongside me, we’re excited to build a hit franchise with global appeal. I am confident we will create a must-see film event that does justice to the unique and epic world that is Bakugan.”

Spin Master’s upcoming feature slate includes a third “PAW Patrol” film due in 2026. Peyton most recently helmed the sci-fi film “Atlas” starring Jennifer Lopez and Simu Liu.
