“Pina Colada Song” Is Becoming A Film

Alloy Entertainment and singer-songwriter Rupert Holmes are teaming up for a romantic comedy feature film adaptation of Holmes’ classic 1979 song “Escape (The Piña Colada Song)”.

The story of the song focuses on a singles ad placed by a woman in search of a relationship, and the man who finds the ad in the paper. From there, it’s mostly remembered for its chorus listing desires in a relationship including making love on the beach at night, drinking cocktails and adopting a firm anti-yoga stance.

The kitschy song became a karaoke favorite and has popped up in countless films and TV shows before, but its story has never been adapted to the screen. The film’s official storyline is under wraps.

Leslie Morgenstein and Elysa Koplovitz Dutton will produce with a writer currently being sought for the project.

Holmes got his start as a session musician, songwriter and composer for artists like Wayne Newton, Dolly Parton, Barry Manilow, the Platters and the Drifters before going out on his own. He’s since become a multiple Tony Award-winning composer and best-selling author.
