PSN Account Now Optional for PlayStation PC Games

When Sony began offering some of its first-party games on PC, there was excitement. That is until the company required players to create a PlayStation Network account to play those games. Now, according to a recent update, PSN accounts are no longer required to enjoy a handful of the PlayStation games that were ported to PC.

A PSN account is still needed to receive the new in-game incentives

This announcement was revealed in a PS Blog post from PlayStation’s Asad Qizilbash detailing new in-game incentives coming to four PlayStation PC ports. These include God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, and upcoming releases Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered. Qizilbash mentioned PSN accounts will become optional starting tomorrow. However, anyone that wants to enjoy the new in-game incentives or earn trophies will need an account.

“Starting with tomorrow’s release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for PC, we’re working to add more benefits to playing with an account for PlayStation Network,” syas Qizilbash. “The Last of Us Part II Remastered (coming April 3, 2025), in addition to God of War Ragnarök and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, will all soon be adding in-game content unlocks for PlayStation Network account users.”

“An account for PlayStation Network will become optional for these titles on PC,” Qizilbash continues. “Players who still opt to sign into a PlayStation Network account will also enjoy added benefits like trophies and friend management.”

This should be welcome news to PlayStation PC fans, as its been a fairly controversial issue since Helldivers 2 released last year. Even though the perks won’t be available, at least players won’t have to make an extra account if they don’t have to.

For those who don’t mind signing up for a PSN account, here are all the in-game incentives available for each of the PlayStation PC games:

  • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: Early unlock suits: the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and the Miles Morales 2099 Suit
  • God of War Ragnarok: Gain access to the Armor of the Black Bear set for Kratos at the first Lost Items chest in the Realm Between Realms (previously only accessible in a New Game+ run) and a resource bundle (500 Hacksilver and 250 XP)
  • The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered: +50 points to activate bonus features and unlock extras, Jordan’s Jacket from Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet as a skin for Ellie
  • Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: Gain access to Nora Valiant outfit
