Report: Bulls, Lonzo Ball agree to two-year, $20 million extension

Lonzo Ball will not be swerving and bending the corner out of the Windy City any time soon.

The guard has reportedly agreed to a two-year, $20 million extension with the Chicago Bulls according to ESPN’s Shams Charania on Wednesday.

CHSN’s K.C. Johnson later added that the second year of the deal is a team option.

The extension is a feel-good moment for Ball, considering he missed over two years due to multiple knee surgeries. Prior to this season, his last NBA action came in Jan. 2022. His hard-fought return in 2024-25 was cut short, however, after Ball suffered a wrist injury just four games into the year, causing him to miss 15 consecutive contests.

Since making his return in late November, the 27-year-old has remained healthy and has been a consistent contributor for Chicago. In 30 games this season, Ball is averaging 7.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals while shooting 35.2 per cent from distance on 21.6 minutes a night.

Charania also reported that there were multiple suitors for the former second-overall pick’s services as the trade deadline neared, but the Bulls opted to keep him in Chicago following his productive return.

Ball was originally drafted by the Lakers in 2017 but was then dealt to New Orleans in a three-team deal that landed Anthony Davis in Los Angeles. The Pelicans then traded Ball to Chicago in 2021 in a sign-and-trade deal for four years at $80 million.

Despite the injury history, Ball remains a quality perimeter guard who can effectively pass, defend and shoot. Prior to the deal, he was in the final year of his current deal and set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.
