Ruben Amorim’s first Manchester United signing Patrick Dorgu has been compared to Manchester City star Jeremy Doku.
United signed Dorgu from Italian club Lecce towards the end of the January transfer window in a deal worth just under £30m.
Dorgu, 20, made 57 appearances for Lecce and has earned four caps for Denmark since making his international debut last year.
After signing a five-and-a-half-year deal at Old Trafford, Dorgu is expected to slot straight into United’s starting line-up in the wing-back position.
‘Patrick Dorgu is a bit like Jeremy Doku at Manchester City,’ former Arsenal and City defender Bacary Sagna told Great Offshore Sportsbooks.
‘He’s very direct. He’s good and he’s fast, he’s powerful. I watch Italian football and I know who he is – he has stood out in a team that is struggling.
‘He used to play in Denmark, and ever since he joined Lecce, he’s been amazing in Serie A. Even though his team was struggling, he was one of the best players at Lecce.
‘He’s very direct whenever he has the ball. He can take players on one-on-one and he’s going to be an interesting player to watch because he’s very powerful.
‘I’m looking forward to seeing how he handles the Premier League, but he has the attributes to be a success in England.’
Doku was one of Man City’s most impactful players last season as they won a fourth successive Premier League trophy.
Dorgu, meanwhile, said following his move to Old Trafford: ‘I am incredibly proud to be able to call myself a Manchester United player – this is a very special day for my whole family.
‘I cannot wait to work with Ruben Amorim. His vision for this team and the future of the club is incredibly exciting.
‘There is a clear plan set out for my development, and I feel that Manchester United is the perfect place to fulfil my potential and complete my huge ambitions.’
Manchester United technical director Jaon Wilcox added: ‘Patrick is a really exciting talent.
‘His strong defensive and attacking attributes, adaptability and work-rate will make him a key part of Ruben Amorim’s squad.
‘Patrick has had a superb start to his career, and at the age of just 20 we know he will continue to develop under the guidance of our excellent coaching team.’
Teenage defender Ayden Heaven was Manchester United’s only other January addition, the 18-year-old joining from Arsenal.
Marcus Rashford, Antony and Tyrell Malacia all secured loan moves away from the Red Devils, who are just 13th in the Premier League table – the same position they were in when Erik ten Hag was sacked back in November.
United suffered another painful defeat at the weekend – losing 2-0 at home to Crystal Palace – and return to action on Friday night with a FA Cup clash against Leicester City.
