Most eligible Galaxy phones have not yet received the January 2025 security patch. The company recently started the rollout to its mid-rangers with the Galaxy A55. However, Samsung has already shared the details about the February 2025 security patch, which suggests that the rollout will begin very soon.
As usual, the company’s latest flagship phones will be the first to receive the new update. It’s possible that the Galaxy S25 lineup will reach the hands of their buyers with the January 2025 patch out of the box. So, these models (and the Galaxy S24 lineup) are the main candidates. As in the past few months, the OTA will focus entirely on fixing bugs and vulnerabilities. The big changes will come starting with One UI 7, Samsung’s long-awaited Android 15-based update.
February 2025 security update already detailed by Samsung
In a blog post, the South Korean giant has listed the dozens of fixes for issues and vulnerabilities that are included in the February 2025 security update. Google contributes the majority of fixes, counting up to 36 for Android’s core. 35 of those vulnerabilities have the “High” severity label, while only one is marked as “Critical.” There are also a couple of fixes that, interestingly, do not apply to Galaxy devices.
On the other hand, Samsung contributed fixes for four vulnerabilities that exclusively affected its hardware/software. These vulnerabilities enabled potential local attacks through memory corruption and read/write out-of-bounds memory. Additionally, malicious actors could exploit them to both enable ADB and disable Samsung Find.
Samsung is not describing how the vulnerabilities can be exploited so that potential attackers won’t know how to do it before the patch rollout reaches all eligible Galaxy phones. In the coming days (or even hours), we could get the first news of the update’s availability. One UI 7, on the other hand, could arrive in late February or early March for the Galaxy S24 series.
