‘The Monkey’ Drums Up Cursed Popcorn Bucket at AMC

Bloody Disgusting drummed up an early look at The Monkey popcorn bucket based on the titular cursed toy, which will be available exclusively at AMC theaters.

Based on the Stephen King short story, the gory romp opens in theaters on February 21 from Neon.

When twin brothers find a mysterious wind-up monkey, a series of outrageous deaths tear their family apart. 25 years later, the monkey begins a new killing spree forcing the estranged brothers to confront the cursed toy.

From producer James Wan, The Monkey is written and directed by Osgood Perkins (Longlegs).

Theo James, Tatiana Maslany, Elijah Wood, Christian Convery, Colin O’Brien, Rohan Campbell, and Sarah Levy star.

Meagan Navarro wrote in her review, “With brisk storytelling efficiency and a playful spirit, The Monkey delivers a Stephen King adaptation like no other. Perkins pushes back against logic in favor of entertaining midnight madness, and death has never been funnier or gorier as a result.”

The Monkey was first released as a booklet included in Gallery magazine in 1980. It was later revised and published in King’s Skeleton Crew in 1985. The collection also features The Mist, The Jaunt, The Raft, Survivor Type, The Reach, and more.
