Tim Kinsella auctioning off unreleased Cap’n Jazz 7″, album cover painting & other test pressings

Tim Kinsella is auctioning off some rare items from throughout his career, including test pressings of almost his entire discography–including records by Cap’n Jazz, Joan of Arc, Owls, Make Believe, and more–as well as test pressings he owns from other bands, like Lifetime and The Promise Ring. He’s also parting ways with the painting he himself made for the sole Cap’n Jazz album, Burritos, Inspiration Point, Fork Balloon Sports, Cards in the Spokes, Automatic Biographies, Kites, Kung Fu, Trophies, Banana Peels We’ve Slipped On, and Egg Shells We’ve Tippy Toed Over, aka Shmap’n Shmazz.
Also in there is a test pressing of a record that never came out, a split 7″ between Cap’n Jazz and Supporting Actress that includes an alternate version of “Olerud.” Supporting Actress’ side became their side of their 1996 split 7″ with Sarge.
In Tim’s words, “I’m auctioning all the test pressings I have. It’s most of the albums I’ve ever made, including the original pressing of the Cap’n Jazz LP on Man w/ Gun Records & the old 7″s & even a Cap’n Jazz / Supporting Actress split 7″ that never came out, so the 3 test pressings of this version of ‘Olerud’ are the only copies that exist. & I’m auctioning off the painting that is the cover the of the Cap’n Jazz LP — The Red Wagon. I’m 50 yrs old & I need the money more than I need the memorabilia.”

Cap’n Jazz are also continuing their latest reunion into 2025 (Primavera Sound included) and they’re giving Shmap’n Shmazz a 30th anniversary reissue via Polyvinyl that marks the album’s first time back on vinyl since its initial 1995 release.
