22 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

ALEX ORANGE DRINK – “QUEEN VICTORIA” (ft. CONOR OBERST)

Bright Eyes’ great 2024 album Five Dice, All Threes grew out of writing sessions that Conor Oberst had with The So So Glos’ Alex Levine, and Alex also duetted with Conor on “Rainbow Overpass.” Now, the two have teamed up again for Alex’s new solo single as Alex Orange Drink, “Queen Victoria.” It’s off his upcoming album Victory Lap (#23), due May 9 via Conor’s label Million Stars.

SUZZALLO (ROCKY VOTOLATO) – “RIVER”

Veteran singer/songwriter and former Waxwing singer Rocky Votolato is now leading a new band, Suzzallo, whose debut album The Quiet Year comes out on May 2 via self-release. The album was produced by John Goodmanson (Sleater-Kinney, Bikini Kill, Cloud Nothings, etc), and Ben Gibbard contributed to several songs, lending vocals, guitar, bass 6, and piano. The first single is the album’s grungy opening track “River.”

MACIE STEWART – “SPRING BECOMES YOU, SPRING BECOMES NEW”

Chicago composer Macie Stewart has announced her International Anthem debut, When the Distance is Blue, due March 21, and here’s lead single “Spring Becomes You, Spring Becomes New.”

WOUNDED TOUCH – “THE DAMNING VARIABLE” & “CHOLERADIO”

JOE ARMON-JONES – “KINGFISHER” (ft. ASHEBER)

Ezra Collective’s Joe Armon-Jones has announced his first solo album in six years, All The Quiet, which he’s releasing in two parts: part 1 arrives March 28 via his own Aquarii Records, and part 2 drops June 13 on the same label. It features contributions from Nubya Garcia, Asheber, Greentea Peng, Wu Lu, Hak Baker Yazmin Lacey, other Ezra Collective members, and more, and the first single features lead vocals by Asheber.

YOU, INFINITE (THIS WILL DESTROY YOU) – “THE ELDER”

This Will Destroy You offshoot You, Infinite have shared another towering taste of their upcoming self-titled debut album, due February 28 via Pelagic.

REVOCATION – “CONFINES OF INFINITY” (ft. TRAVIS RYAN of CATTLE DECAPITATION)

Boston death metallers Revocation have shared a standalone single ahead of their Europe tour with Cattle Decapitation, whose Travis Ryan provides guest vocals on this song.

STATICLONE – “ALONE IN PHILADELPHIA”

Blacklisted offshoot Staticlone have dropped another tase of their upcoming debut LP for Relapse, Better Living Through Static Vision.

SQUID – “CRO-MAGNON MAN”

UK band Squid’s new album Cowards is out this Friday and here’s one last preview. Like a lot of their songs, “Cro-Magnon Man” is sinewy and rhythm-forward with many twists and turns.

GIRLPUPPY – “I JUST DO!”

girlpuppy, aka Becca Harvey, has announced new album, Sweetness, which will be out March 28 via Captured Tracks. “I wrote this song after spending 6 days in Los Angeles with a guy I had an all consuming crush on,” Becca says of the album’s first single. “It’s just about that feeling of knowing you’re wasting your time by developing feelings for someone who is completely emotionally unavailable, but you do it anyway because it feels good. I wrote this entire song and then recorded a voice note of me singing it acapella in my bathtub (where I get lots of inspiration for songs). I brought it to Alex [Farrar] and he built the instruments around the melody I wrote and it turned out so much fun. This is definitely gonna be my favorite song to play on tour.”

BENEFITS – “DIVIDE” FT. SHAKK

UK duo Benefits (Kingsley Hall, Robbie Major) will release their second album, Constant Noise, on March 21 via Invada Records and here’s another song from it, this one featuring rapper Shakk. “Divide is a punk song about society at war with itself over every conceivable issue,” says Hall. “It’s angry about everything from war, inequality, misplaced patriotism and poverty; to greed and the industrialisation and monetisation of hate. It’s an attempt to bring together everything that Benefits in 2025 represents, both sonically and lyrically. We wanted to merge heavy electronica, traditional punk and protest, to create an assault on the senses in the best possible way. Along with producer James Adrian Brown, we threw beat after beat at it and brought in our friend Shakk to add pure fire and heart. It’s a piece about division but done in the spirit of unity.”

JJULIUS – “Dödsdisco”

Swedish musician and producer JJULIUS will release Vol III on March 7 via DFA. New single “Dödsdisco” is eccentric danceable indiepop for those who prefer to boogie left of center.

DEEP SEA DIVER FT. MADISON CUNNINGHAM – “LET ME GO”

Deep Sea Diver’s first album for Sub Pop will be out February 28 and here’s another song from it, “Le Me Go,” which features Madison Cunningham. “I’ve been wanting to collaborate with Madison for a long time, and I was over the moon when this song came in such an unexpected moment,” says DSD’s Jessica Dobson. “We were just jamming in the studio and I started playing a guitar riff that I’ve had kicking around since high school that Madison started immediately winding around on her guitar. We looped a drum machine that my co-producer Andy Park started playing and a few hours later most of the song was finished. This song felt effortlessly cool from the start; It reminds me of some of my favorite PJ Harvey songs, full of grit & power. We shot the music video with the same spirit, and as two LA natives who both love the city—we wanted to explore our hometown. Not knowing that it was two days before the LA fires, it has subsequently taken on a new meaning as a love letter to the city we both adore.”

WAXAHATCHEE – “MUD” FT MJ LENDERMAN & SPENCER TWEEDY

Along with a tour update, Waxahatchee just dropped this twangy new song featuring MJ Lenderman and Spencer Tweedy.

SACRED PAWS – “TURN ME DOWN”

Sacred Paws, the UK duo of Ray Aggs (Trash Kit, Shopping) and Eilidh Rodgers (Golden Grrrls), have announced Jump Into Life, their first album in six years, which will be out March 28 via Merge. They co-produced the album with Tony Doogan (Belle & Sebastian). This is the very enjoyable first single.

PATRICK WOLF – “DIES IRAE”

Patrick Wolf, a mainstay of ’00s-era indie, has announced his first album in 13 years. It’s titled Crying the Neck and will be out April 25 via APPORT/Virgin Music. (It follows 2023’s The Night Safari EP which was his first music of any kind in a decade.) Wolf says it’s “set between the months of July and September in East Kent and the first of a four album project that will work its way around the celtic wheel of the year.”

ANIKA – “HEARSAY”

Here’s the first single off Anika’s upcoming third album, Abyss.

MEI SEMONES – “DUMB FEELING”

The new single from Mei Semones’ upcoming debut album mixes gentle, string-laden tropicalia with less gentle indie rock.

VALERIE JUNE – “JOY, JOY!”

Says Valerie June of her aptly named new single. “Everyone has felt moments of darkness, depression, anxiety, stress, ailments, or pain. Some say it takes mud to have a lotus flower. This song reflects on the hard times we might face: to fail, to fall, to lose, to be held down, to be silenced, to be shut out yet still hold onto a purely innocent and childlike joy.” Owls, Omens, and Oracles will be out April 11.

BE SAFE – “TO SUFFER”

One of last year’s most underrated albums (in my humble opinion) was Unwell, the debut album by Be Safe, the new band led by Matt Wojcik of late 2000s / early 2010s emo revivalists Perfect Future. It’s now getting a vinyl release with this vinyl bonus track, which you can read more about here.

ESTHER ROSE – “NEW BAD”

Esther Rose announced a new album, Want, and its first single is a gritty country/indie rock hybrid that comes with a video directed by Men Have Called Her Crazy author Anna Marie Tendler. Read more here.
