Ben Affleck has settled on Netflix’s “Animals” as his next feature directorial effort and has replaced Matt Damon with himself as the lead.
Damon will be occupied filming Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” for the next few months, so Affleck has chosen to take on the male lead role himself and will star opposite the one and only Gillian Anderson in the film.
His first directing work since “Air,” the movie sees Affleck playing an L.A. mayoral candidate whose son has been kidnapped.
With most of his money gone due to campaign spending, he and his wife (Anderson) just have a few hours to ‘get their hands dirty’ and come up with the ransom payment.
Connor McIntyre wrote the script with revisions by Billy Ray. The project was originally supposed to be shot last year, but Affleck instead worked on the sequel to “The Accountant”.
Production is reportedly aiming to begin net month in Los Angeles.
