“Emilia Perez” FYC Ad Missing A Key Name

A new For Your Consideration ad for Jacques Audiard’s “Emilia Perez” has reportedly seen its controversial leading star Karla Sofia Gascón’s name not listed according to World of Reel.

Gascón is up for Best Actress at this year’s Oscars, but her name is not on the ad going by the capture on Reddit. Supporting actress Zoe Saldana, director Jacques Audiard, and the film’s song title are included though.

The outlet indicates the move is being seen as an attempt by Netflix to right the ship of its awards campaign for the film and follows a busy past week in which Gascón, having publicly apologised for years-old tweets that were seen as expressing bigoted views, gave a teary hourlong interview with CNN en Español.

THR has reported that Gascón set up the interview on her own without the involvement of anyone working on the film.

So far the reaction to the interview has been dwarfed by the speculation over the film’s current awards chances. The Oscars voting period ends February 18th, so it’s not clear how much all this will impact those chances.

It marks the latest turn in an awards campaign filled with infighting and controversies ranging from “The Brutalist” use of AI for its accents, “Anora” not using intimacy coordinators, etc. with several writers drawing comparisons to the action within “Conclave” and how that controversy-free film may end up winning by default.
