Kate & Rooney Mara Join Herzog’s “Bucking”

Real-life sisters Kate Mara (“House of Cards”) and Rooney Mara (“The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”) will play fictional sisters in iconic director Werner Herzog’s new film “Bucking Fastard”.

Herzog will write and direct the film with Ariel Leon Isacovitch and Agnes Chu. Shooting will begin this spring in Ireland and Slovenia.

The film tells of two inseparable twin sisters, Joan and Jean, who live on the fringes of society.

No further plot details regarding the film are available at this time and there’s no further casting news either. This marks the first time the Mara sisters have worked together.

The project is based on the true story of Freda and Greta Chaplin, who in 1981 became UK tabloid fodder.

The pair were dubbed ‘sex-crazed twins’ who spoke synchronously and became so infatuated with their neighbor that they eventually went to court and received a restraining order.

Herzog’s last scripted film was “Family Romance, LLC” in 2019.
