Nintendo Reveals Plan to Keep Up With Switch 2 Demand
Nintendo announced in an investor’s Q&A that it plans to produce as many Nintendo Switch 2 consoles as possible to meet possible demand. It acknowledges the risk it’s taking to do so. [Thanks, Famitsu!] During the online Q&A, an investor asked about how many Nintendo Switch 2 consoles Nintendo plans to produce for its initial run. They also commented on how, during the COVID-19 pandemic and insuing quarantine, the demand for Nintendo Switch increased so much that Nintendo had trouble producing more to meet it. In response, Shuntaro Furukawa, the president of Nintendo, replied that Nintendo will look at consumer reactions after the Nintendo Direct and demos to feel out the market. As a reminder, the next Nintendo Direct stream will be on April 2, 2025. Currently, it plans to shoulder potential financial risk during the production process to meet as many demands as possible. However, Furukawa did not go into the specifics about the production plan. Nintendo also learned from its experience during the pandemic. So it’s also making preparations to ramp up production if there’s a sudden rise in demand. Nintendo officially revealed the Nintendo Switch 2 in January 2025, and the console will come out this year. More details about the Switch 2, such as games available at launch, will be announced at the upcoming April 2025 Nintendo Direct presentation.
