Here’s a service we didn’t know was popular among certain groups: paying others to unlock PS5, PS4 Platinum trophies. I noticed a discussion on the topic crop up on a website dedicated to PlayStation trophies, and couldn’t resist looking up “Platinum trophy service.” The results were quite surprising.

How much are people willing to pay for services to unlock Platinum trophies?

This aforementioned discussion took place on PSNProfiles, where a user pointed out that there are legitimate eBay listings and forum posts offering trophy unlocking services. They weren’t wrong.

I found pages upon pages of listings, with some sellers boasting hundreds of positive ratings. “Unlock individual trophies to complete your platinum, or we can earn the entire platinum from scratch!” reads one eBay listing that offers dynamic pricing starting at $6. “Our method will not result in bans and is undetectable on sites like PSNProfiles.”

I found another listing that is specifically for unlocking the Platinum trophy in Stardew Valley for $62.30. This eBay seller also has hundreds of positive ratings.

One PSNProfiles user revealed that their friend turned to offering Platinum trophy service after losing their job during the pandemic, and actually made quite a bit of money. “Surprisingly (or not), people were interested. And he charged a lot,” wrote one kevao97. “Yes, this market is real, and it exists. The reasons vary: lack of time, lack of skill, lack of patience, or simply the desire to have a polished account to show off.”

Well, this is enlightening.
