Ceiling light wiring
Hi, need some advice on replacing a ceiling light. I removed the old flush mount light and found three sets of wires (tested with non contact probe): 2 black (hot); 2 white (neutral); 1 brown (also hot). I would have thought the brown wire was ground but the ceiling light was attached to only via the 2 white wires and the brown wire and was getting current through the brown wire. Question: is the single brown wire supposed to be ground? And if yes, why is it hot and is this a problem? Light was working fine before I removed it and saw the wiring set up. On the attached image, the red circles the single brown wire. The old light was NOT attached to the 2 black hots--it was only attached to the brown and white/neutral wires. https://preview.redd.it/xmuhdb5k8c4f1.jpg?width=2299&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5ea4ba770d4c2d8d3ffba88750f7ad1a9610ba86 submitted by /u/muddycat [link] [comments]
