Nintendo Switch 2 Image in the Nintendo Today! App Confirms Mystery Joy-Con Button Is Indeed the C Button
Nintendo has confirmed the Nintendo Switch 2's mysterious new Joy-Con button is indeed the C button, as had been rumored. But we still don't know what it does.

Nintendo has confirmed the Nintendo Switch 2's mysterious new Joy-Con button is indeed the C button, as had been rumored.
Confirmation comes from the just announced and released Nintendo Today! app, whose App Store and Google Play store listings include an image that, when looked at closely, reveals the C on the button.
The new button was revealed alongside the Switch 2 earlier this year, but at the time images of the new Joy-Con did not include a letter on the button. Prior reports indicated it was called the “C” button, and so it has proved.
There’s a great deal of speculation about this button. Some suggest it may relate to “casting” the Switch 2 to a TV wirelessly, or screen sharing of some kind. Others have wondered whether it’s the button to press in order to change the Joy-Con’s functionality, for example into mouse mode. There’s also speculation that the button may relate to new group or voice chat functionality.
Nintendo has announced a Switch 2 Direct for April 2, so hopefully we’ll find out more then. Until then, here’s what we know for sure:
- Nintendo Switch 2 is out in 2025, probably not before June though if the hands-on event schedule is anything to go by.
- Nintendo Switch 2 is larger than the original Switch, with larger Joy-Con that look like they can be used as a mouse.
- There are two USB-C ports on Nintendo Switch 2, one at the top and the other at the bottom. The original Nintendo Switch had one.
- The Nintendo Switch 2 is backward compatible, and the reveal video confirms the Switch 2 plays both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games, as well as Switch 2 exclusive games. Certain Nintendo Switch games may not be supported on or fully compatible with Nintendo Switch 2, however.
- There’s a new Mario Kart game for Nintendo Switch 2.
Meanwhile, Nintendo just hosted a Direct focused on the original Switch (here’s everything announced). It was during this show that the Nintendo Today! App was announced.
Video game legend Shigeru Miyamoto spilled the beans on the company’s latest news push as a last-minute stinger during the showcase. This all-in-one phone application comes with a variety of perks for die-hard Nintendo fans to be aware of.
This hub for all things Nintendo serves as a daily calendar and news machine to drip feed information directly to players as it happens. Miyamoto used the example that, after the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct premieres next week, fans will be able to log into the Nintendo Today app to catch all of the updates, with more news arriving “daily” from there.
