Putting up Bamboo Panels

I have bought some bamboo panels like these (2.4mX1.0m). I have the following questions before I start installing these: 1. Do I need to apply primer/paint on the backside of the panels (not the one showing in the picture) Do I really need to put timber rails behind these to screw them to the fence? I have wooden fence and don't have the plain side. So I have three horiozontal supports on my side. The bottom and middle supports behind the pannels will line up with the ones on fence.
