IGN exclusively revealed new footage from the upcoming second season of Peacock’s Twisted Metal at IGN Live today. (The clip can be viewed via the player above or the embed below.) Showrunner Michael Jonathan Smith also appeared at IGN Live to tout the show’s new season.
In Season 2, the mysterious Calypso (Anthony Carrigan) invites all the killers, vigilantes and joyriders of the Divided States of America to participate in a demolition derby tournament with the promise of making the winner’s greatest wish come true.
IGN’s exclusive scene depicts the commencement of the Twisted Metal Tournament as participants ranging from John Doe (Anthony Mackie) and Quiet (Stephanie Beatriz) to Sweet Tooth (Joe Seanoa & Will Arnett) and Dollface (Tiana Okoye) all hit the road, guns a-blazin’.
The clip also shows quick looks at the half-man, half-machine Axel in his War Wheel form.
And then there’s Mayhem, a new character introduced this season played by Saylor Bell Curda. Mayhem has only known a post-apocalyptic world (or, as the show refers to her generation, “apo-babies”).
With John spending part of his storyline this season with his sister Dollface, Quiet required a new character to share scenes with so she becomes, as Beatriz recently told us for our Twisted Metal Season 2 cover story, a “cool aunt” for Mayhem.
“Not to put too fine a point on it, but she's a little piece of shit,” Beatriz said of Mayhem. “She's a talker. She lies through her teeth. She's a teenager in this world, so she's grown up inside the world of Twisted Metal. She doesn't really remember anything before. She's really learned how to survive in this world, but I also think Quiet sees that she has a lot of potential, meaning that she's smart, she learns quickly, and once she is able to listen, then Quiet can really take her under her wing and teach her quite a bit.”
This exclusive sequence depicts just some of the vehicular mayhem fans of the PlayStation games franchise can expect from the new season of Twisted Metal, which launches on Peacock on July 31st.
