Am I able to just paint over big colored marks on walls? I've been trying to clean it for an hour and it just won't come off. There's a room with a stained wall in every room of the house. I'm renting it but the landlord said I can repaint if needed.

I just moved in and am renting but the landlord said I can use paint for anything in the house as long as it matches. Please help!! Please give advice on how to go about this.
