Meet the Mocassin, Zegna's New Loafer

The moccasin has distant roots: It was born as a functional shoe, used by indigenous populations of North America for its practicality. Over time, it crossed the Atlantic Ocean and was increasingly adopted in Europe, entering the men's wardrobe of the twentieth century with a more defined shape, suitable for the city. In recent years it has found new relevance, becoming a stable element also in the closets of younger generations. Zegna introduced its own take and revealed its Mocassin, a new shoe for the luxury label whose name takes inspiration from the term "mocasin" used in Piedmontese dialect by the founder Ermenegildo.

The Mocassin loafer is born from meticulous workmanship, attentive to detail, and embodies "a long journey towards perfection" undertaken with determination by the Italian fashion house, per Zegna. The design is embellished with the distinctive sign of the 232 Road Mark, an element that goes beyond simple decoration, evoking the origins of the brand and creating a subtle but powerful link between tradition and contemporaneity. The leather is treated using traditional tanning techniques. The result is a resistant shoe, soft to the touch and designed to last over time.

In the brand's Summer 2025 campaign, Mads Mikkelsen, global face of Zegna, wears the Mocassin in a series of images set on the sunny streets of Italy. For the occasion, Mikkelsen wears garments from the new Oasi Lino collection, made of certified and fully traceable linen. The moccasin, not so much displayed as lived, naturally, changes shape slightly over time, softens, adapts to the rhythm of the wearer. An object designed to accompany, rather than to be noticed, and which over time takes on a more personal character, as happens with well-constructed objects.
