Can I splice tail light wire with a separate switch from the brake lights and still use the same negative wire from the connectors?

I’m having this issue with my my 2010 civic where my tail lights and license plate lights are not working but the brake lights/turn signals, reverse lights and hazard are all working. I already checked the fuses and changed all the bulbs but still to no avail. I also tested the voltage from the tail light and license plate wires but no voltage running is thru. Now my temporary solution is to make a separate switch with a separate relay to make my tail lights work. My only concern is with the double filament brake lights, one that has a 2 separate positives but share the same negative wire. My question is can i just replace the tail light wires with a new connection that goes to the new switch but still using the same negative wire from the connector? So i can run both tail lights and brake lights while pressing on the brakes? submitted by /u/Big_Fun5362 [link] [comments]
