Portuguese football legend Cristiano Ronaldo has become the latest character to appear in the upcoming fighting game FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves.

Becoming a playable character, a collaboration between the footballer and SNK Corporation was first teased in October 2024.

Ronaldo shared a trailer on his X (formerly Twitter) account confirming he will be one of several characters forming FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves’ roster.

FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves releases on April 24th, 2025 and is the first FATAL FURY title to be released in 26 years. The last instalment of the fighting game series launched in 1999 for the Neo Geo Arcade system.

Following a gap between releases, a majority stake in SNK Corporation was purchased by the MiSK Foundation, owned by Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. As a result of the deal, the foundation owns 96% of the company.

Alongside Saudi Arabia’s involvement in the release of FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves, the fighting game is also one of several titles hosting a tournament at the 2025 Esports World Cup, a multi-title event taking place in Riyadh this year.

Despite Saudi Arabia continuing to expand its presence across sport and entertainment, the Kingdom continues to generate controversy from various communities due to its human rights record.

This isn’t the first occasion the footballer has collaborated with the gaming industry. In January 2025, he joined forces with the free-to-play football title UFL to launch an in-game event pass showcasing his career. Notably, Ronaldo is an ambassador and shareholder of UFL, which was released in November 2024.

In 2023, Cristiano Ronaldo signed for Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr, mostly owned by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund.
