Drilling through hardened steel
I’ve got some very, very stubborn bolts that need removing. They’re in quite an annoying place (roof rack bolts) so using heat, etc is too risky. I tried an easy-out (bolt extractor) which has ended up breaking off inside one of the bolts. I’ve drilled out all the remaining ones and re-threaded which with hindsight, I should have done from the beginning. The standard HSS bits I have won’t make a dent on the hardened steel easy-out inside the bolt. Will a carbide or cobalt bit get through this? Any advice is welcome submitted by /u/Complete-Mix328 [link] [comments]
