Elden Ring’s live-action movie adaptation is in the works. Here’s who we want to see in its cast

A24 is working on an Elden Ring movie adaptation in collaboration with the game's publisher, Bandai Namco. As soon as the news dropped, ideas of who could play what emerged, leading me to craft this almost-too-wild casting list.

Elden Ring movie cast ideas

Since there's an ungodly number of roles in the game itself, being FromSoft's largest and all, I've picked out only the most crucial ones—that is the demigod children, their parents, the Tarnished, and Gideon Ofnir. I'm also fairly certain no budget could cover all of these at once, but they would make an amazing ensemble.

Alexander Skarsgaard as Tarnished

Alexader is one of the several talented members of the Skarsgaard family, who've starred in award-winning movies and shows across the board. His role in The Northman makes him perfect for a warrior role in a mythical setting such as Elden Ring's and he'd be taking down the entire issue of Marika and Radagon while never feeling out of place.

Emma Myers as Melina

A relative newcomer on the acting scene, Emma Myers played roles in Netflix's Wednesday and, most recently, The Minecraft Movie, giving her enough experience in fantastical settings and video game adaptations. She also resembles Melina quite a lot and would be perfect as the Tarnished's Maiden.

Ralph Ineson as Gideon Ofnir

Not one person in the entire world has a voice better suited for video games than Ralph Ineson, who has already voice acted in numerous titles, including Diablo 4. He also starred in The Witch and other similar movies and shows where myth, legend, folklore, and fantasy come together, making him an amazing option for the backstabbing Gideon Ofnir of the Roundtable Hold.

Lena Headey as Marika

The one and only Cersei Lannister simply had to appear in a movie adapting a world written by George R.R. Martin. Several actors from the Game of Thrones TV show appear here, not least because of their experience in fantasy, but also both their connections to Martin and their overall acting prowess. Dye her hair red and she'd be one of the best characters in the movie, guaranteed.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Radagon

Okay, look, I didn't purposefully cast Jamie Lannister as Cersei's husband, i.e., symbiote. When assembling the cast there were so many characters that I sort of lost track of who was in it, and only later noticed that I paired the two perfectly together. Call it fate, or whatever else, but his looks and existing experience with fantasy simply make him an awesome pick as Radagon. Just like with Headey, all it takes is for the crew to dye his hair red and make it very, very long.

Ralph Fiennes as Margit

Fiennes is one of the best actors on the planet and has experience with roles of just about any kind, from the most heinous of villains to tragic heroes. Recently, he also played Odysseus, and looked mighty fine, and his sheer range gives him the ability to become anyone, including Margit-Morgott, last of all Kings.

Michael Sheen as Mohg

While not as known as Fiennes, Sheen is a Welsh actor mostly known for his occasional but jaw-dropping movie performances and frequent award-winning theater acting. He understands mythological and romanticist drama better than most and would easily fit into the shoes of Mohg. While looks for most of these Omen characters might be called into question, they're likely to be significantly CGI, so only voicework and raw acting really matter.

David Bradley as Godrick

Though very old now, Bradley's performance as Walder Frey proves he would be an amazing choice for voice acting as Godrick, who, given all of his grafted dragons, is likely to be pure CGI or motion capture. In that case, Bradley could still invoke his inner Frey while portraying another of Martin's characters, and facial scanning technologies that exist today could also help the CGI Godrick resemble him significantly.

Emily Blunt as Rennala

Rennala is generally a very silent character and pure performance is necessary to make her as interesting as possible. And, who else to put in that role than Emily Blunt, who proved just how good of an actress she was in A Quiet Place where her character primarily does not, or rather cannot, speak.

Saoirse Ronan as Ranni

Known best for her award-winning role in Lady Bird, Saoirse Ronan both looks and can act like Ranni and perfectly portray her cold, quiet, yet cunning nature. Ranni is one of the most influential characters in the game and has an entire ending tied to her, and few actresses could do better in a demanding role than Ronan.

Alan Ritchson as Radahn

Radahn is a buff, silent, and tall general who has a commanding presence on account of his sheer size and authority. And, given how he portrayed the eponymous character in Reacher, Alan Ritchson would be the perfect fit as a military figure who can command the stars to descend onto the Lands Between.

Willem Defoe as Rykard

Once again, Rykard, being a 100-foot tall snake and all that, will most likely be completely CGI. Given that the in-game Rkyard has an entire face grafted on the side of a snake, we could see technology being used to put Defoe's face on the side of a massive CGI serpent, and his wicked talents, shown both in The Northman and Nosferatu, put to good use to bring this amazing and mysterious character to life.

Andy Serkis as Maliketh

If there's ever a character that walks on all fours and is generally beastly in nature and cannot be recreated by anything except motion capture and other technologies, then Andy Serkis is the perfect man to play it. He's one of the best CGI and mo-cap actors in the world, having broken ice with his role as Gollum in the LOTR trilogy, and would be amazing to play this dark death-rune wielder.

Henry Cavill as Godfrey (Hoarah Loux)

If Andy Serkis is the solution to any CGI problem, then Henry Cavill is the perfect man for whenever you need a shirtless buff warrior to come onto the scene. His role as Superman and Geralt of Rivia gave him enough experience in fantasy, while his fascination with source material and video games would also do wonders in this role. On top of that, he simply looks the part and would be able to play such a physically demanding role as Hoarah Loux, one of the final bosses of Elden Ring.

Elizabeth Debicki as Malenia

Malenia is one of the most difficult characters to cast, given that she is incredibly tall and powerful, but thankfully Elizabeth Debicki and her 6'2" height, alongside amazing acting skills, more than make her a fantastic choice for the role. She played significant roles in various genres, including The Cloverfield Paradox, which proves she's more than acquainted with high-concept fantasy settings and would certainly do well as the most difficult boss of FromSoftware's title.

There are many more roles that have been left out for the sake of having a compact list, so let us know who you would cast as The Dung Eater or one of the many Merchants, or even as roles we've already covered.
