Framing wall to separate utility room.
So I have a utility room (hot water heater and furnace) and laundry room that are currently 1 room. The people who did our basement framed the outter wall of this and the back wall as an extra since they had some leftover lumber and dry wall. I would like to put a wall to separate the two rooms to make more of a finished look in the laundry room. Obviously this wall wouldn’t have electrical, plumbing, or insulation. Just drywall on the side of the laundry room. Do I have to use 2x4s to frame this wall or could I use something thinner? I would leave about 40” to service the furnace and hot water heater. Pretty sure code is 36”. submitted by /u/Efficient-Grab-3428 [link] [comments]
