Help designing a geothermal sand bath

We have hot spring water piped in to our home. I want to add an outdoor spa in the backyard, and I want it to include a sand bath that mimics the natural ones found in Japan (e.g.: https://www.google.com/amp/s/soranews24.com/2022/02/09/soak-in-a-sand-bath-in-beppu-japans-famous-onsen-region/amp/ ) My idea is to collect the soaking tub’s run off water and channel it through a series of pipes beneath a lined pit full of sand. I don’t think that’s quite sufficient though. The natural sand baths have geothermal steam rising up through them. This slightly dampens the sand without making it wet. The slight humidity not only makes the experience more pleasant, I believe it also helps aid with uniform conductive heating throughout the pit. I envision the eventual pit sunken into a wooden deck, and I imagine there would need to be some form of drainage so the sand could periodically be washed down to remove body sweat and whatnot. I feel like I have encountered something like this in European luxury hotel spas, but I cannot think of a specific example. Has anybody seen a diagram of a system like this? submitted by /u/TobiasBloyd [link] [comments]
