How to I protect this part of my roof/fix the end of the rafters?
Photo of roof/edges: https://imgur.com/a/dwyCC3N Hi everyone! I'm hoping this is something I take on myself, but I'll let you all guide me. I just finished cutting down all the rotten wood from a metal-framed pergola. The pergola was self-standing, but since it sat within 2 ft of the garage, they attached some boards under one of the rafters to allow rainwater to flow off the roof of the garage and onto the pergola's tin roof. When I moved in (13 yes ago), I had my garage and house reroofed and since the pergola was still there, they ran shingles off the garage roof and slightly over the pergola's tin roof so water would flow off the garage roof, and down the pergola's tin roof. The pergola wood was severely rotted in a lot of places, and instead of replacing the rotten wood, the previous owners just put new wood around it to keep it secure. I've removed so many nails that were all put in the same hole to hold stuff in place. It's been a pain in the ass for me to remove, but I didn't want that rot spreading anymore more than it had. So, rotten wood is gone, but now the roof edge is bare (other than the flap of shingles hanging over it) and I know something needs to go over it, but I don't know what. The wood at the very end of the rafters (the edhes of the outside pieces) that the crap wood was attached to is damaged on the ends as well. The roof is still in excellent shape, so I want to avoid ripping it up more than I need to. If there's a way to strengthen that wood (I've seen wood hardener for after-termite repairs) or just replace the ends that stick out from the garage (I'm sorry, I don't know the right term for them), that would be so useful. I think I'm capable of learning how to do a lot of things, and knowing how to fix the edge of the roof correctly would be a useful skill to have. I'm not afraid of tough jobs. Thank you in advance submitted by
