Kick demon ass as iconic Mortal Kombat characters with this Doom 2 mod

Doom and Doom 2 have been around for decades and have retained their status as influential games in the first-person shooter genre. But the series isn't as old as, say, Mortal Kombat, which released its first game in 1992. Hmmm...I wonder what it would be like to mix the two together. Lo and behold, someone has done just that. Take a look at what SkeletronMK666 over on ModDB has given us. Ultimate Mortal Kombat for DOOM is a way to battle the demons of hell as some of the fighting franchise's most iconic characters. Screenshot via Destructoid. The mod is for Doom 2, and you get to choose between Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Cyrax, Smoke, and Rain, or you can let the game decide for you. What's it like to perform the "Get Over Here" move on an imp? Well, if the video is anything to go by, pretty dope, it seems (do people still say dope?). Finish them! It's not just pure aesthetics, either, such as getting to see Doom Guy's avatar replaced with someone from Mortal Kombat. The weapons have also been changed to reflect each character. So Sub-Zero has his ice powers, Rain can blast his foes with water, and yes, Scorpion does have his iconic spear throw. I should say that, technically, SkeletronMK666's mod has been out since 2021. However, it had an update not long ago, which would explain why it's now showing on the most recent list for ModDB downloads. This one has clearly passed me by, so I wanted to give it a shout-out. If you know me, you know I love talking about Doom and Doom 2 mods. I'm actually just fascinated by the modding community in general. To think that, 30 years after release, id Software's legendary FPS is still attracting large swathes of fans that take a look at these aging games and think, I know what I can do with this.
