A team set to compete in the Playoffs for MPL Singapore Season 9 has been suspended following an investigation into potential match-fixing.

Singaporean team Everlasting Luv was one of six community teams which qualified for the Playoffs taking place between June 6th and 8th, 2025.

Everlasting Luv secured a place in the Playoffs through the inaugural Challenger Qualifiers, a new format aimed to provide aspiring players with a chance to compete in the top tier of competition.

On June 4th, 2025, the MPL Singapore Committee shared details on a match during the third week of regular-season competition. During a match between Everlasting Luv and Sovereign SG, the league launched an internal investigation into the ‘suspicious gameplay’ that occurred during the match.

Everlasting Luv players Akashi, Kyushu, and WILLYYY were interviewed by MPL Singapore representatives, claiming their explanations didn’t correlate with in-game actions, team communications and data from their in-game accounts.

As a result of the investigation, the trio of players were found guilty of breaching Rule 15.1.2, which states teams are expected to play at their best at all times.’ In addition to the breach, the players were also found guilty of misleading league officials during the investigation.

Each of the players has received a two-season suspension, preventing them from competing in MPL Singapore until June 2026. Alongside the suspension, Everlasting Luv is disqualified from the Season 9 Playoffs.

“As the nation’s only professional esports league, MPL Singapore upholds the highest standards of competitive integrity,” read a statement from the MPL Singapore Committee.

“We take all breaches of fair play seriously and will enforce strict penalties to ensure a level playing field for all teams and players. This decision reflects our commitment to maintaining a fair, transparent, and professional esports environment in Singapore.”

What’s Next For MPL Singapore Season 9?

With Everlasting Luv disqualified from the playoffs, Kingdom Esports has received a bye into the next round, where it will play against Flash SG for a chance to secure a place in the upper bracket finals.

The remaining teams will continue playing for a share of a $40,000 SGD (~£22,926) prize pool and a place at the Mid-Season Cup taking place as part of the Esports World Cup.
