TL;DR

  • The Formalwear bundle is smaller than other cosmetic bundles in Overwatch 2.
  • It includes three skins for Mercy, Tracer, and Hanzo. Sojourn, Baptiste, and Cassidy’s Formalwear skins are not part of the bundle.
  • The bundle costs 3,800 Overwatch coins.
  • That is the equivalent of around $35 to $40.
  • The Overwatch 2 Formalwear Mega Bundle is not only not worth the cost, but it is also misleadingly labelled. The bundle suggests that players will be getting all the Formalwear skins originally released as part of the Winter Wonderland event in 2023, which isn’t the case.

The Formalwear skins in Overwatch 2 are a skin series that dresses certain heroes in elegant formal outfits. The Formalwear Mega Bundle is currently available in the Overwatch 2 shop as part of the current rotation of cosmetics.

The Formalwear bundle is a little smaller than some of the other cosmetic bundles in Overwatch 2, but it still has a relatively high price of 3,800 Overwatch coins. Is the Formalwear bundle worth the price of admission, or is it another overpriced cash grab from Blizzard? Let’s take a closer look at the bundle to see exactly what it offers.

What is the Overwatch 2 Formalwear Mega Bundle?

The Formalwear Mega Bundle includes three skins for Mercy, Tracer, and Hanzo. Sojourn, Baptiste, and Cassidy’s Formalwear skins are not part of the bundle. The Tracer skin included is not her original Formalwear skin. It is a recoloured version of it called Evening Wear. Hanzo’s skin is also not technically a Formalwear skin, as it is called Heir and wasn’t released alongside the other Formalwear skins. However, he is wearing an elegant, formal outfit.

The bundle costs 3,800 Overwatch coins, but it could be a bit cheaper for players who have Overwatch coins saved up or who already own any of the cosmetics in the bundle. The 3,800 Overwatch coins price tag is around $35 to $40 in real money, but it is an incredibly awkward amount as the coins can only be bought in batches of 500, 1,000, 2,200, 5,700, or 11,600.

For those looking to buy all 3,800 coins at once, there are a few options. Players can either opt for the 5,700 coin package, but this will leave them with a lot of coins leftover. It is also costly, as this package is $49.99. Another choice is to buy a 2,200 coin bundle with two 1,000 coin bundles, as this would give the player 4,200 coins for a little less than $40.

If players have a spare 100 Overwatch coins, they could go for a 2,200 coin bundle along with a 500 and a 1,000 coin package. This would amount to 3,700 and would be a little less expensive, costing just under $35. However, this would only be viable for those who have that spare 100 coins to make up the last little bit needed for the bundle.

Is the Overwatch 2 Formalwear Mega Bundle worth it?

To be frank, the Overwatch 2 Formalwear Mega Bundle is not only not worth the cost, but it is also misleading. The bundle suggests that players will be getting all the Formalwear skins originally released as part of the Winter Wonderland event in 2023. This isn’t the case, as only one of the three legendary skins included in this bundle–Mercy’s Formalwear skin– is part of the original Formalwear line.

Tracer’s skin is technically her Formalwear skin, but it is a recoloured version that isn’t as subtle as the original skin. It features a white, gold, and red colour palette and gives Tracer blonde hair in contrast to the original black and white colouring and Tracer’s normal hair colour.

The Hanzo skin included in this bundle is called Heir. It is a recolour of his Scion skin from Overwatch 1, which is a great skin in itself, but not part of the Formalwear line.

Sojourn, Cassidy, and Baptiste received skins in the Formalwear line during the Winter Wonderland event, but they are nowhere to be found here, nor is Tracer’s original Formalwear skin. Seeing as this bundle is advertised as a mega bundle for the Formalwear line, it seems incredibly misleading not to include the majority of the skins from the series, especially for the price.

The other cosmetics in the bundle are average at best. The name card, spray, and player icon are nice, but they are not enough for players to pay $35 to $40. They are also only themed around Mercy’s skin, which is undoubtedly one of the best Formalwear skins and the highlight of this bundle. However, for such a high cost, there needs to be much more variety.

Conclusion

So, is the Overwatch 2 Formalwear Mega Bundle worth it? For $35 to $40, the answer to that question has to be no. There simply isn’t enough content in this bundle to warrant that price, and the content that is involved isn’t what the bundle is advertised as.

Mercy’s Formalwear skin is one of the most noteworthy skins in that series, and it’s the best part of this bundle. However, none of the other original Formalwear skins are included. Although Tracer’s skin is the same design as her original Formalwear skin, it’s a recolour. Hanzo’s is also a recolour, and it’s not even part of the Formalwear line.

There are only three other cosmetics included alongside the skins, none of which include animations, such as emotes or highlight intros. Mercy’s skin might be enough for some players to purchase this bundle, but there is very little else to be excited about, especially at such a steep price.
