Pergola over backyard deck

Hi all, hoping that I am posting on the right sub. I have been wanting to put a pergola with wood rafters over our wood deck in the backyard. The deck is an odd size and would need roughly a 12x20 pergola to go over it. Now the hard part is that I don't want to have a center support beam as it would obstruct a door on the house side and views on the other. We live in Northern California so do get some heavy rain and some days with strong wind but no snow or tornados. I have not found any pergola kits as large as we need without a center beam and am starting to think we need to build our own. There is a local company called Wild Hog Linx that sells prefab hardware so I was hoping to utilize those components into my build. Would my plan be structurally feasible without potential for sagging? I know there are more components required and will have a handyman helping with Assembly. Pergola Build List Separate Wood Components Qty Size Purpose 12–16 2x6x12’ or 2x8x12’ Rafters spanning from one side of pergola to the ridge beam 2 4x6x20' Main ridge beam (roof beam running the 20' length) LINX Hardware Qty LINX Part Function 4 6x6x10' or 6x6x12' Vertical support posts 3 6x6x12' Cross-beams 4 Trifit Brackets (?) Join beams to each vertical post corner 2 T-Fit Brackets Mid-span roof beam support connectors (ridge beam) 4 Unifit Brackets Anchor into ground 8 45-Fit Brackets Diagonal bracing for lateral strength and visual style 2 RafterFit Kits Attach rafters to the ridge beam (4x6x20) Design Notes • Trifit and T-Fit brackets create strong, clean connections and modern design. • 45-Fit Brackets should be used diagonally from posts to beams for added strength submitted by /u/Commercial-Ad1159 [link] [comments]
