Should Flight Delays Turn Into Talent Shows? It’s A Divisive Topic…
Flight delays are of course frustrating, and can make tensions among passengers run high. In these situations, is some bonus inflight entertainment a fun way to lighten the mood, or does it just lead to even more frustration?

Girl sings Disney song over PA on delayed Delta flight
There’s a video going viral, showing a girl singing a song over the PA on a Delta Boeing 757. According to a Reddit user, this happened on a recent flight from Atlanta (ATL) to Orlando (MCO), around two hours into an extended delay. At that point, a flight attendant came on the PA and said “we have some entertainment for you all, so and so is going to sing for us.” The passenger claims that everyone in first class just stared at one another in disbelief.
In a video that has been viewed tens of millions of times across social media platforms, a girl can be seen singing “How Far I’ll Go,” from the Disney film “Moana.”
Is this cute and sweet, or annoying?
With the video having been viewed so many times, people have very conflicting takes, as you might expect. On one end of the spectrum, people find this to be an adorable way to pass the time. On the other end of the spectrum, well… just see the caption above, how “this is actually my worst nightmare.”
I’m conflicted on this. To start, let me say that the girl’s singing is perfectly lovely, so any criticism of the performance isn’t of the singing talent, but rather, of the venue.
To Delta’s credit, at least this happened on a flight to Orlando during the start of the summer season, so it’s not like this happened on some business route. On the other hand, performances like this also basically force 200 people to listen to something unnecessary, which they didn’t sign up for.
I’m sure some passengers were on phone calls, while others were watching seat back entertainment, and that was all interrupted by this performance.
Fortunately there’s always a Curb Your Enthusiasm reference for any sort of awkward social interaction, so the below clip seems relevant here. In fairness, Larry David isn’t exactly a role model when it comes to following social etiquette, so make of that what you will.
Bottom line
Passengers on a recent delayed Delta flight were treated to some bonus inflight entertainment, as a girl sang “How Far I’ll Go,” from the Disney film “Moana.” Unsurprisingly, the internet’s reaction to this is all over the place, with some finding it cute, and others being less amused.
Where do you stand on this kind of impromptu inflight entertainment?
