Sourcing some strong elastic?

I'm trying to prototype a wristwatch setup similar to this photo of a compass. I'd like to wear my watch like this when I'm out cycling, as I think it'll be easier to see when my hands are resting on the drop handlebars without needing to adjust/lift an arm. My Amazon hunt has led me to various elastic webbing sources, but it's all been very thin (i.e., thin top to bottom like measuring the thickness of paper). This seems more flimsy than I'd like for use in an athletic situation. The width I'm looking for is 5/8" (15-16mm) Are there any sources of thicker elastic that exist?
