The Red-Soled Tabi Is Here! How to Shop Maison Margiela and Christian Louboutin's Drop
These were first revealed on the runway (from the same show with Pat McGrath's viral glass skin). Now, limited pairs are available to shop.

The Maison Margiela 2024 Artisanal collection took the fashion and beauty world by storm. Its pieces by John Galliano, styling, and makeup by Pat McGrath won over afficionados from all corners of the internet. The shoes were another focal point of the show, as they revealed the fashion-favorite Tabis with a new twist: red soles by Christian Louboutin. More than a year after that runway, both brands announced their collaboration.
The collaboration, a blend of the shoemaker’s audacious elegance and couturier's avant-garde artistry, promises to captivate fashion enthusiasts and collectors alike. Items spanning ballet flats to stilettos are set to release on March 12 an extension of what was presented in the Maison Margiela 2024 Artisanal collection. It will showcase two sub-lines—Maison Margiela by Christian Louboutin and Christian Louboutin by Maison Margiela—with each French label interpreting the other’s signature aesthetics through a fresh and innovative lens. Prices for the limited-edition shoes will range from $1,095 to $2,395.
Fashion visionaries Galliano and Christian Louboutin, who have shared a long-standing friendship since the beginning of their careers, spearheaded the creative direction of this project. Read on for the difference between both lines of this collaboration and how to shop the new heels.
The Difference Between the Collaboration's Two Lines: Marlougiela and Loubiella
The Maison Margiela by Christian Louboutin line offers a sensual reinterpretation of Margiela’s iconic Tabi shoe, infusing Louboutin’s curvaceous and feminine design language. Standout pieces include the Bridiela Una Strass, a bridal pump adorned with handcrafted crystal embellishments, and the Loubiella sandal, which highlights the seductive arch of the foot with its asymmetrical strap design. The collection is completed by the Marlougiela ballerina, which boasts sculptural lines and a sensual silhouette. Each design is kissed with Louboutin’s signature red sole.
Meanwhile, the Christian Louboutin by Maison Margiela collection takes Louboutin’s seductive silhouettes and strips them down through Margiela’s famed decortiqué technique. This approach, which involves reducing a design to its skeletal framework, exposes the raw construction of each shoe. The Bilougiela 25 sandal and the Martinloula pump incorporate deconstructed elements that peel back layers of black patent leather, revealing the craftsmanship beneath. The Xrismarteen, a knee-length boot, and the Martoubi 25 pump, featuring a spontaneous red brushstroke detail, round out this collection with nods to Margiela’s bianchetto technique and Louboutin’s iconic Red Sole.
