Thinking of building a “room” in my studio apartment - can’t mount anything to ceiling - details in caption
First, forgive my rudimentary iPhone drawings. Like the title said, I’m thinking about building a room in my studio apartment. While I like the open floor plan, my cats often like to make a ton of noise and run around while I am trying to sleep, and it would be nice to be able to close myself off for privacy reasons as well. First two photos are of my apartment, others are similar but different ideas from Pinterest. Basically, I can’t mount anything to the ceiling. I’m wondering if three thick beams (or four in the back right corner if I need one) mounted to the wall studs would be sturdy enough to then support a frame with a sliding glass or plexiglass door on one side, and potentially a plexiglass grid window situation on the other side maybe mounted on top of a pony wall or cabinet console below it. I might be able to build up to the ceiling just for the “appearance” of being flush with the ceiling, but will have to check with my building management on codes etc., it may have to have an open space of a certain height at the top. I’m very much just in the exploratory phase at this point in time, please be kind! Open to all feedback and ideas. TIA submitted by /u/feralriverslitherer [link] [comments]
