to concrete the post or not
My existing mailbox post (PT 4x4 buried in dirt) has rotted through at ground level. Below 6” the post is still intact. The USPS (Im in Michigan living on a dirt road, btw) recommends setting the base of the post in concrete about 24” below grade, then covering the rest in dirt. My question is, given the rotting pattern of my defunct post, should I bother doing the concrete? Concrete 12-24” below grade will not prevent the post from rotting through at grade.
