Ranked matches, a battle mode that allows you to prove your deck and your own strength, are coming to Pokémon TCG Pocket.
Battling against other trainers has been a staple of the Pokémon series, whether it was in-game vs. Youngster Joey or in-person with Pokémon Trading Cards. Pokémon TCG Pocket combines the two for a unique battle experience, but is somewhat missing a true level of measured competition.
Players have been hoping for a ranked battle mode to come for a while, and it’s finally on its way. Here’s when the Ranked mode is releasing in Pokémon TCG Pocket, and what we do and don’t know about the feature so far.
When does Ranked Mode release in Pokémon TCG Pocket?
Ranked is coming to Pokémon TCG Pocket at the end of March, according to the Triumphant Light trailer.
An official release date hasn’t been announced as of this writing, but we’ll update this post when the date is known.
How Ranked Mode works in Pokémon TCG Pocket
Here’s everything we know — and don’t know — about the Ranked Mode coming to Pokémon TCG Pocket.
What we know about ranked so far
There hasn’t been a lot of news surrounding the details of ranked battles, but we know that there are no plans for Pokémon TCG Pocket to join the competitive Pokémon circuit, according to VGC. This doesn’t mean that it’ll never join the competitive circuit, as there is always a chance Pokémon TCG Pocket gets added to the line-up in the future.
What we don’t know about ranked so far
- How ranks will be distributed. Ranked modes across every game have their own rank tiers for you to see how you fare against the competition. Pokémon titles tend to name their ranks after the Poké balls in some form like in Pokémon Unite and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. You’ll start out in the Beginner rank and work your way up to Master. Ranked could also go with an ELO system where you’ll receive a rating and match against other players at a similar rank and level.
- Whether cards will be restricted. Ranked battles will most likely follow the rules of the regular battle mode, as Pokémon TCG Pocket is still a fairly new game, but restrictions and rule changes could come in the future. Once more expansions release, there could be a standard set of cards to be used in ranked — with expansions rotating in and out.
- What rewards you’ll receive. Pokémon titles like Unite, Scarlet and Violet, and Pokemon GO provide competitors with rewards depending on your rank. Rewards usually come in the form of cosmetic items, so in Pokémon TCG Pocket, you could receive accessories like deck boxes, card sleeves, coins, and playmats. As Pokémon TCG Pocket is a card game, there’s also a chance you’ll receive exclusive cards.
