Witness Fashion's Art of Opposition in These Editorial Looks
Hard lines and seductive draping create fashion’s most compelling dialogue of the season.

Fashion is full of many arts across all its techniques. Draping is one of those, renowned for the increased technical skills and savoir faire it takes for one to know how to drape and drape well. The mode of working revolves around something less mathematical and more spontaneous and experimental. Unlike patternmaking, with draping, much is done on the body, and the final item of clothing takes after that shape, whether replicated on a live model or turned into a pattern to be re-made many times over.
This look is a central theme in many designers' Spring/Summer 2025 collections, and it's worth putting on your moodboard. In L'OFFICIEL's latest editorial, shot by Giuseppe Vaccaro and styled by Giorgia Melis, this storied fashion technique is front and center, especially in a Fabiana Filippi dress that swims horizontally across the body of the model wearing it. But there was a striking opposition across collections, too.
Unlike the more flowing silhouettes often associated with draped clothes, many designers also revealed more rigid, sharp, and harsh lines. A loose-fitting tailored suit by Lucie and Luke Meier's Jil Sander embodies these cleaner lines. A sheer polka dot top by Valentino, on the other hand, combines the straight lines of a long sleeve shirt with ruffled embellishing around the neckline and waist. A cropped leather jacket by Andreadamo keeps the traditional silhouette's cool vibe while adding in something modern, thanks to its midriff-revealing cut.
